I should be getting ready for work, but here I am writing this short blog.
I left for Florida on Sunday. When I left Richmond, VA the weather was cold and rainy. There were warnings for a winter storm that was supposed to come through. However, I have lived in Richmond for going on four years and I have never even seen snow, so as I am sitting in the airport, I am totally denying the possibility that is might snow. I would like to note one thing about Richmonders - the threat of snow throws them into a frenzy. So much so, that the grocery store typically sells out of bread and milk - NO JOKE! Anyway, I get out of Richmond just fine and land in Charlotte, NC where is starts to blizzard.
While in Charlotte, NC my flight ends up leaving an hour late. We sat on the plane for over an hour while they de-iced. I am not complaining however, they can take as long as they want if it means that they get me there safely. As we are approaching the run way, I look out the window and notice that the run way is COVERED in snow. I have to admit that I was freaking out a bit because the news is constantly reporting planes sliding off runways or making emergency landings. So, how do I handle this? I am glad you asked! I start to cry like an idiot! I fly constantly, but have had a few very rough flights this winter, so I have noticed that I get a little scared while taking off in snow storms. I would also like to add that I am stuck in the window seat next to two of the largest women on the plane and one of them is spilling into my seat! Long story short, we thankfully arrive in Tampa Florida safely.
Meanwhile, back at home, Richmond continues to get dumped on with snow causing the whole area to become crippled and consquently, the plant where I work, reported that all non-essential employees need not report to work. Talk about luck! I just escaped one of the biggest snow falls in four winters. However, instead of getting the day off like my friends, I got to work yesterday. So, I pouted the whole day yesterday, declared that I would be taking a comp day, pouted a little more, and then got over it! Man, I am a BABY! : )
So, I am off to do my last day of men's work. I hope that all of my friends in Richmond today arrive safely at work if they have to go in. I know that my northern family and friends probably think it is ridiculous that a couple of inches does this to southerns. However, I will tell you as a northen transplant - I understand! They do not clear the roads in the same way they do up north. So, I repeat again - I hope all my friends make it to work safely today!
Ok, this is the end of my stream of conscienceness! : )
